Abstract

The article presents a study which examined the impacts of the 2006 World Cup football competitions on call volumes and profiles to apprehend how public events can influence demands on the ambulance service. Data relating to the calls are logged and saved on a mainframe computer. The results showed that call volume was over 50 percent higher on the day of the first football competition than that on a typical Saturday. It is concluded that mapping of limited resources will provide improved responses to emergency calls.
