Abstract

The article provides information on the efforts of Mary G. Curry to collect data about the endangered species of plant in Louisiana under a survey conducted by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources to protect endangered plants. She questioned the listing of the names of the plants considered endangered by the Smithsonian Institution in Washington D.C. The list consisting the names of endangered and threatened plants of the U.S. has dropped the names of two species including the holly Ilex amelanchier and a grass Bothriochloa exaristata and has added the Indian paintbrush, Castilleja ludoviciana, species based on Curry's research. It is stated that more of Curry's nominations were not added to the list because the Smithsonian must make recommendations on a national basis.
