Abstract

The article discusses poor people at the bottom of the pyramid (BOP) of global income distribution and how businesses can can best reach out to these people. The authors state that literature concerning BOP has touted the group as a significant opportunity for businesses, yet there is little stating how to practically implement such an opportunity. The authors present two BOP case studies to outline a context that mitigates managerial complexity. The authors conclude that existing BOP models can be used to cultivate new markets that include the poor and are also profitable.
