Abstract
- The article focuses on the increasing trend of employment equity planning in Canada's public sector. It discusses several reasons for the increasing importance of employment equity planning as a management tool including the gap between male and female wages and minimal representation of women in various occupations. It stresses on the need for strong executive commitment and organizational coordination for the successful implementation of the plans. It mentions the observations of the Royal Commission on Equality in Employment report and presents its key points related to the employment equity. Also mentioned are various components of employment equity including non-sexist communications among employees, gender-balanced selection panels, and strict sexual harassment policies.
