Abstract
- The article presents information on the impact of rapid socioeconomic development on the lives of women in San Pedro Sacatepequez, San Marcos in Guatemala. Increasing modernization in the town expanded the commercial transport and trade system of the town leading to employment of male workers. Despite the economically favorable position of the town, development in the area was basically male-centered, which left no space for women to enter the field. As a result of the discrimination women were obligated to become more economically isolated, under-employed and male dependent.
