Changes in Alcohol-Related Inpatient Care-An International Trend Comparison.

This paper studies two utilization measures of alcoholim treatment, discharge rate and average length of stay, in the United States, Australia, Sweden and Canada. The results suggest that the decline in length of stay and discharges in the past 15 years was an international phenomenon and not unique to the U.S. However, data for length of stay also suggests that the biggest decline in the United States coincided with the fastest growth of managed behavioral health care.
