Abstract
- The article focuses on public choice in the U.S. It is stated that public choice replaces a romantic and illusory set of notions about the workings of governments by a set of notions that embody more skepticism. It is inferred that public choice also explains some chronic criticisms of bureaucracy, with bureaucrats usually believing in the importance of their mission and naturally wanting to increase their office's impact and prestige. Public choice theorists recommend new constitutional rules that everyone agrees on to guide the political process.
