Abstract
- The article offers information on the impact of 1988 presidential transition in the political evolution in Mexico. Mexican domestic politics have been plagued by instability, external intervention, and political unrest. Democratic processes such as presidential succession is an important venue for the Mexicans to alleviate their political maturity and democratization. Several factors affecting the quality of the election in Mexico includes the erosion of single party system, restructuring of the Mexican economy by the previous administration, and the weakened political condition of the country. The United States will not risk the political opening of Mexico by remaining passive, it will exercise means to install stability on its neighboring country.
