Abstract

The article looks at the role played by interleukin-6 (IL-6) and its receptor in cancer. IL-6 is a pleiotropic cytokine is said to be involved in the physiology of virtually every organ system and its elevated levels are strongly associated with several phenotypic features of cancers. It cites that therapeutic targeting of IL-6 and its receptor in cancer may be beneficial in the treatment of the disease. It discusses several studies on the association between high levels of IL-6 and breast cancer.
