Abstract

The article discusses the use of insulating concrete forms (ICF) and structural insulated panels (SIP) in promoting energy efficiency. Both materials are expanded polystyrene (EPS) systems introduced in the 1970s and are gaining widespread acceptance in North America. ICF help buffer a structure's interior from extreme outdoor conditions, while SIP provide increased thermal protection for conventional frame construction. Additionally, these materials also offer energy savings with design flexibility and quicker construction.
