Markets for Western Canada's Forest Products in East Asia.

The article presents information about the role of East Asian markets on the forest industry of Canada. The second half of the 20th century saw a consolidation of western Canada's forest industry. Japan's forest product market had a strong influence on the development of the coastal industry of British Columbia. The economic downturn in Asia that occurred in 1997 and 1998 has limited the potential of western Canada to export forest products to the East Asia region, and therefore, there has been a decline in Asia's influence on the industry in that area.
