Abstract

The section of "Comfort Properties of Textiles," deals with the problem of noise in the textile industry. It is stated that the emission of noise during textile processing is a notorious feature of the industry. A researcher has given a general discussion of the factors that govern the generation of noise by machinery, along with a summary of methods suggested for its absorption and reduction. Another researcher points out that noise control is a burden that must be shouldered by the industry as a whole. Several authors have worked on measurements of the noise levels to which employees are exposed in a working environment. The most tangible effect of noise exposure is the loss of hearing. In many countries, legislation to control high sound levels is in force or under consideration.
