3. THE IDENTIFICATION, ANALYSIS, AND ASSESSMENT OF TEXTILE DYES AND FINISHES.

The section of "Chemical Testing and Analysis" presents information on the quantitative evaluation and identification of textile dyes and finishes. The application of physico-chemical analytical techniques has brought rapid changes in the identification of finishes and processing aids on textile materials. In a 1974 issue of the journal "Chemical Testing and Analysis," an article by A.G. De Boos reported the publication of a comprehensive atlas of infra-red spectra of textile finishes. However, nothing new has been added concerning methods of identification and the analysis of processing aids on textiles during the last four years. To identify flame-retardant finishes, a wide range of analytical procedures are reported to have been used.
