Abstract

The article focuses on the transformation of school supervision into a tool for quality improvement of education in Africa. Supervision existed to ensure that all education staff respected the same rules and regulations and followed a similar program. Traditionally, the core role of supervisors is to control the teachers and oversee their performance in the classroom. According to the author, controlling the functioning of schools and allowing for regular exchanges between schools could be a powerful tool for quality improvement. Due to scare resources and educational strategies, supervision services are faced with a genuine strategic challenge.
