Abstract
- The article profiles black American artist Kara Walker. The debut of her art show titled "My Complement, My Enemy, My Oppressor, My Love" at the Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris in Paris, France, is discussed. Often utilizing black-paper cutouts in addition to watercolors, drawings, and films, the author likens Walker to the French master painter Honoré Daumier. The author also comments on black spiritual themes present in Walker's works.
