Abstract
- This section offers news briefs on medicine. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has found that the annual deaths from poisoning had increased by 62.5% from 12,186 in 1999 to 20,950 in 2004. The CDC also estimated that methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA) infections were reported in 45 out of 1,000 dialysis patients in 2005. Meanwhile, the American Heart Association (AHA) has issued new guidelines regarding the increased risks associated with the use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2).
