Abstract

The article focuses on the life and works of physicist of James A. Van Allen. He is one of the great pioneers of space research and best known for his discovery of intense belts of radiation encircling Earth. He has played a leading role in the development of the field heliospheric physics and provided instruments on spacecraft. He graduated at Iowa Wesleyan College with a major degree in physics and earned his doctoral degree at the University of Iowa. He has received a Carnegie Research Fellowship and worked in the Department of Terrestrial Magnetism.
