Abstract

The article features textile artist Laurie Wohl and her artwork. Her wall hangings, which she calls "turtle time," bring out a slower time in contrast with the uncontrolled pace of contemporary life. Her canvas tapestries were described as having an absorbing physical presence. She describes her tapestries as unweavings. Wohl graduated from Columbia Law School. She became a painter in 1976, but her focus shifted to fiber when she found herself in a studio examining a piece of unstretched canvas. One of her art pieces, the Tree of Life, is described.
