Abstract

The article reports on the usage of wireless local area network (LAN) of the Southampton University Hospitals Trust in England to enhance the security and accuracy of patient records, and the transfer of digital images of the x-rays. The network enables to identify rogue programs to prevent potential threats such as encryption to all the confidential patient information of the healthcare institution. The hospital has used the £170,000 Aruba wireless LAN to offer healthcare services to more than three million people in southern part of the country and the Channel Islands. The network provides a secure access to the hospital's Picture Archiving and Communications Systems (Pacs) devices for x-ray.
