Abstract
- The article offers a report relating to the Japanese hanging scrolls. The section focuses on the three hanging scrolls featured at the Freer Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., as of October 2006. It discusses the treatment options, condition of the scrolls and paintings, and several aspects of the treatment process of the three hanging scrolls in comparison with a hanging scroll also executed in the Edo period, 1660-1868, which was completely remounted. According to the report, the condition of each scroll was carefully examined by conservators in the East Asian Painting Conservation Studio.
