Abstract

The article focuses on Vincent Martella, an actor who costars in the television show "Everybody Hates Chris", is a Special Olympics National Youth Ambassador, participated in the 2006 National Youth Summit which was held at the 2006 Special Olympics USA National Games in Ames, Iowa, and turned down a television role in which he would have had to say the word retarded because he thinks the word is hurtful and disrespectful to people with intellectual disabilities. A discussion of Martella's views on films, including "My Brother" which have increased awareness about people with disabilities, is presented.
