Abstract

The article focuses on obesity as an important risk factor for cardiometabolic diseases including diabetes, hypertension and coronary heart disease (CHD). It states that guidelines for classifying weight status based on the body mass index have been provided by several national and international institutions. It cites the use of waist circumference (WC) as a marker of abdominal fat mass. Measurement techniques of waist circumference are discussed.
