Abstract
- The article provides some insights into the risks and benefits of eating contaminated tuna and other seafood. Research has revealed that bacteria in marine soil and sediment like to dine on mercury, which they convert to a toxic form called methylmercury. The bacteria are absorbed by plankton, which fish dine one. Eventually, big fish eat the small fish which when eaten by humans, cause disease. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has made warnings against consumption of contaminated tuna.
