Abstract
- Chapter 4 of the book "Everyday Life: Transportation" is presented. This chapter discusses the rise of a variety of horse-drawn vehicles with the development of a number of roads and trails in the U.S. First such vehicle was prairie schooner, a colorful wagon with white canvas at the top. The schooner was similar to the Conestoga wagon that was shaped like a boat, with both ends curved upward. To move in groups, people started using coaches and the first concord coach was built in 1825.
