Abstract
- This article analyzes the differences in television viewership between people in former East Germany (GDR) and West Germany. The author focuses on how television audiences in the GDR were restricted as to what they could watch by the government, the impact and popularity of West German broadcasts on GDR viewers, as well as the competition between West German programs and GDR television stations. Additional article topics include the GDR's assertion that West German media was attempting to influence the East German audience ideologically, as well as how the leadership of the GDR attempted to prevent this at all costs.
