Abstract: Chapter 2 of the book "Everyday Life: The Middle Ages" is presented. It describes the life on a manor during medieval Europe, including the common layout of manors and the three-field method of farming. It compares the two type of peasants that existed during this period, namely the freedmen and the serfs, and explains how serfs can earn their freedom. A discussion on the rights, duties, and way of life of serfs is presented.
