Abstract
- The article presents U.S. legal cases and developments in marketing relative to the regulation of price competition. In 1988 the U.S. Federal Trade Commission proposed several changes to the Robinson-Patman Act. In reference to price discrimination the Rankin County Cablevision v. Pearl River Valley Water Supply District, et al. case is cited. The U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Mississippi ruled that cable television is not a commodity in reference to unlawful price discrimination under the Robinson-Patman Act. In reference to price control the USA Petroleum Co. v. Atlantic Richfield Co. case is cited. In this case the court ruled that maximum resale price fixing is illegal.
