Africa: Still the “Dark Continent”.

The author reflects on Africa as a largely unknown continent with few papers published in this journal. He provides a map of Africa with an overlay of Europe, Japan and the U.S. to show relative areas. He describes several African ecosystems and emphasizes ongoing research needs and conservation problems with potential solutions.
