Abstract

The author comments on the Democratic Party losing the 1946 Congressional and Senate elections. The author also discusses how liberal Democrats lost a lot of ground in the elections as well. It is suggested by the author that progressives, and the Democratic party as a whole, failed to generate voter turnout, and that the election did not indicate a mandate for the Republican party or a rejection of New Deal policies.
