Abstract

The article assesses the plan of the Chinese government to establish a new investment agency called State Exchange Investment Co. (Sfxic) with the task of managing the country's foreign exchange reserves. Based on an announcement of China's Finance Minister Jin Renqing in March 2007, the agency will manage between $200 billion and $300 billion of China's $1.1 trillion in foreign exchange reserves. He likens the new body to Singapore's investment entity, Temasek Holdings.
