Abstract

The world is facing a chronic and persistent shortage of nurses. Critical social theory can help to understand why nurses are leaving the system. It can also point to solutions. Education in Higher Education has an opportunity to lead the way in changing this dire situation by shifting to a transformative approach for teaching students how to nurse, and how to move beyond practices that maintain their marginalised and dissatisfying status within the health system. This paper will describe, illustrate and critique the processes used in the 5 years that the program has been running. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
