Guest Editorial.

The article comments on the special issue of the periodical "Ferroelectrics" dedicated to Professor Yoshihiro Ishibashi. He has contributed many research works to physics, which have been used by experimentalists to analyze data. One of them is about incommensurate structures in ferroelectric insulators. He has also developed several models for these mechanisms in the framework of Landau theory.
