Abstract

This article presents of history of forts in Jamestown, Virginia starting from 1607. A graph charting the migration of 4000 settlers in four years shows how setbacks of Indian uprisings, disease, drought and starvation led to only a quarter of the inhabitants surviving. An illustration is given of the forts' structure based on archeological findings and historical theory.
