Abstract

This article describes how Fortune Brands' profits have jumped 34% in 2006. The company, which was originally incorporated in 1985 as American Brands, traces its lineage to 1795, when a man named Jim Beam started marketing whiskey. By the mid 1990's, Fortune Brands had four divisions: home and hardware, spirits, golf equipment, and office supplies.
