Abstract

The article cites a study that investigates the autonomic responses of transsexual males, homosexual men, and heterosexual students to erotic film sequences. The study evaluated penile volume changes and galvanic skin responses of the subjects to erotic stimuli. The methods used in the study and the modalities used, such as gas pressure transducer for measuring penile volume and the 5PI preamplifier for the galvanic skin responses, are also discussed. The study found that the transsexual patients differed substantially from homosexual patients because they are inclined to show more positive penile volume responses to males than to females. It also indicated that students and homosexuals showed greater galvanic skin reactions to the preferred than to the non-preferred sex.
