Firsthand Nature.

The article provides information on the experience of a teacher and her kindergarten and first grade students who explored nature through direct exploration, field-trips and classroom activities. It reports that the children were able to discern various scientific elements from observing a live caterpillar in their classroom and also by reading "The Very Hungry Caterpillar," by Eric Carle.
