Abstract

This article presents information on a study that examined ethnic identities in the academic community of Boston, Massachusetts, as well as their reaction to the Six Day War. The study collected data from sixty-three Jewish social scientists of the Boston academic community. Study participants came from the social science departments at Harvard, Brandeis, and Boston Universities. In order to identify apathetics, the study used three additional indicators of minimal emotional and participatory involvement in ethnic matters. Some respondents indicated that they were surprised at the extent of their involvement with Israel during the war. On the other hand, apathetics were less involved than sympathetics or others, although they were not thoroughly detached.
