Abstract
- The article focuses on the study of history and social anthropology in South Africa. Most professional historians assumed that the study of Africans belonged to the discipline of anthropology because African societies had been changeless and no evidence existed to allow historians to recover the history of African lives. Author David Hammond-Tooke suggested for historians to draw on ethnographic studies and modern anthropological models, which could help scholars to understand the processes of the past.
