Abstract

The article discusses the International Nuclear Fuel Cycle Evaluation report prepared by Great Britain's Atomic Energy Authority. The report states that the demand for electricity and nuclear power is likely to increase in excess of the current U.S. estimates. It is suggested that the contentions of the report are essentially motivated by political rather than technical interests in questions dealing with creation of a balance of measure in relation to development of nuclear technology. The U.S. initially asked European countries not to go in for reprocessing fuel and building breeder reactors in return for providing enriched uranium while itself considering the option. European countries suspected that the U.S. might be doing so to maintain its economic and military superiority.
