Abstract

The article presents information on Japan's use of American soldiers as guinea pigs for developing biological weapons during the Pacific War. Secret documents, secured under the U.S. Freedom of Information Act, reveal that Japan used biological warfare against China and the Soviet Union during the Pacific War. The U.S. government tried to cover-up the whole incident to secure exclusive possession of Japan's expertise in using germs as lethal weapons. It granted immunity from war crimes prosecution to the Japanese participants in return for their laboratory records. Japan had gained this undisputed lead primarily because its scientists used humans as guinea pigs, many of whom were American soldiers captured during the early part of the war.
