Abstract

The article presents research findings from a study of South Korean primary-school students aged 4-11 years and their understanding of heat and temperature. The study was conducted by interviewing 154 students and asking questions related to three main concepts of understanding heat and temperature: conceptions of heat equilibrium, thermal insulation, and temperature. Many students showed tendencies to use relevant life experience to form opinions. Students' common alternative conceptions and the logic behind them are discussed.
