Abstract

Abstract??The molar conductivities (?) of solutions ofn-tetrabutylammonium tetraphenylborate (NBu<subscript>4</subscript>BPh<subscript>4</subscript>) in 3-pentanone have been measured in the temperature range from 283.15 to 329.15 K. The conductance data have been analyzed using the Lee-Wheaton conductivity equation with the distance parameter (a) set at Bjerrum?s pairing distance, and the limiting molar conductivities (?<subscript>o</subscript>) and the association equilibrium constants (K<subscript>A</subscript>) have been derived. The limiting ion conductivities (?_?<superscript>o</superscript>) have been evaluated according to the method of Krumgalz. The ?<subscript>+</subscript><superscript>o</superscript>values have been compared with ?<subscript>+</subscript><superscript>o</superscript>values calculated from the empirical equation of Gill. The thermodynamic functions, Gibbs energy (?G<subscript>A</subscript><superscript>o</superscript>), enthalpy (?H<subscript>A</subscript><superscript>o</superscript>) and entropy (?S<subscript>A</subscript><superscript>o</superscript>) for the process of ion-pair formation as well as the activation energy of the ionic movement (?H<superscript>?</superscript>) have been evaluated. The obtained results are discussed in terms of ion-ion and ion-solvent interactions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
