Abstract

The article discusses a class at Yale University entitled "Studies in Grand Strategy," which has students portray members of an imaginary United States political administration as a world crisis is simulated. The seminar takes place over a full day as students react to crises that are completely out of their control, with professors and volunteers acting as members of Congress, foreign diplomats, and journalists. The grand strategy program has built a reputation as a training ground for the national-security establishment, inspiring some criticism from other students.
