Abstract

The article relates the author's experience of meeting American artist Georgia O'Keeffe in 1975. The most dramatic aspect of his visit was O'Keeffe's open anger at groups of women who literally worship her. She would find white flowers on her doorstep, presumably in tribute to her paintings, token offerings made to her as a guiding goddess of the feminine sensibility. It was obvious that she was genuinely disgusted by these displays of idolatry.
