Abstract

The article focuses on the defeat of former British Prime Minister Edward Heath to Harold Wilson in the 1974 elections. The election was devastating to the supporters of Heath because he had positively shone with confidence during the campaign. Wilson rejected the proposal of the Liberals for a national coalition government to include all three political parties. The appointment of Michael Foot as Secretary of State for Employment under Wilson's cabinet made the most controversy.
