Abstract
- The article considers the use of computer-assisted ordering (CAO) by U.S. and European retailers. Despite the pioneering efforts of such retailers as Shaw's, Price Chopper and a few others, U.S. retailers have largely resisted systems that automate the store ordering process. In Europe, retailers have taken the opposite approach, adopting CAO systems provided by such technology vendors as SAP, SAF and Aldata. INSET: Upgrading Handhelds.
