Abstract
- The article discusses the use of poverty incidence, average deprivation and relative deprivation on the measurement of household poverty in Great Britain. Poverty is measured by enumerating and identifying individuals, families or household with incomes below poverty line. Household poverty in the country is reported through the Family Expenditure Survey in 1975. Opinions on the relevance of the methods used to measure poverty are varied. Poverty indices can be viewed as a welfare function for the poor and can reflect an increase or decrease in poverty level.
