Abstract
- The article looks at the gender gap in poverty rates in the U.S. It discusses how the poverty rates among women have been increasing through the years. The poverty rates of women are 2 to 4 percent higher than those of men, both in district states and in the country. Shouldering of family responsibilities and being a single parent contributes to the growing poverty rates among women. Details on the situation of women, particularly working women, in states are offered.
