Abstract: The article reports on mumps activity in the U.S. from January 1 to October 7, 2006. A total of 5,783 confirmed or probable cases of mumps have been reported to the Centers for Disease Control and prevention. Iowa reported the most number of mumps cases, followed by Kansas and Wisconsin. More than a quarter of these cases were reported during April 16-29. Vaccination remains the number one preventive measure against the outbreak of this disease.
