Sustainable development and British and use planning: A Hayekian perspective.

This paper analyses the relationship between various conceptions of sustainable development and the role of land use planning from a Hayekian perspective. The focus of the paper is on a modified version of the Pareto principle and the manner in which this should be used to evaluate liberal market processes, relative to institutional alternatives. Using a comparative institutions analysis the paper develops a critique of the current practice of sustainability planning in the UK. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
